The Sopranos Diary

Take one highly-acclaimed American HBO drama. Add the entire box set of six seasons and stir in one loser who still hasn't gotten round to watching the whole thing from the start. What do you get? "Julie and Julia" but with a lot more swearing and violence.

Yep, despite having had The Sopranos on DVD since my birthday back in February I still have not yet managed to make a good stab at watching the series. If I was to hazard a guess I think it has a lot to do with me knowing full well that, once I start, I will just want to call in sick for days on end in order to carry on watching. It's happened so many times before - I once rented CSI box sets from my local library and spent a good few afternoons running through several episodes in one go. In the middle of Summer, too. Back when we had decent weather. I tell myself it was acceptable because it was the New York version and it had Gary Sinise who is Oscar nominated so y'know...it was academic, really. Honest.

*POSSIBLE SPOILER*

I have a week off due to half-term so I’ll pop the first DVD into the player. I'll go easy on myself and take my time and hope for the best. I just keep thinking about the ending, widely considered one of the best endings in TV history which is saying something. I know how it ends and this is OK because I know that watching the seasons will actually make this ending even better because I'll know more and therefore, I'll see more from the ending- I can make up my own mind as to whether he lives or dies.

Wish me luck!
